Our University, Tuzluca Salt Caves

Investigating Its Effects on COPD Patients

For the project titled "Effect of Halotherapy on Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Inflammation and Oxidation Stress Markers" conducted by our Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakkı Alma and one of our academicians, Assist. Prof. Tekin Sancar, experiments have begun on the first group of subjects in Tuzluca Salt Cave.

Within the scope of the project, a group of 20 subjects from the Chest Diseases Department of Ağrı Training and Research Hospital was brought to the Salt Cave in Tuzluca under the control of Ağrı İbrahim Çeçen University Faculty Member and Chest Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Metin Akgün.

In the first phase of the study, which lasted approximately 4 hours, COPD patients were checked for PFT, Sao2 and pulse before entering the cave. Then, detailed blood tests were taken and they were transferred to the cave environment.

The subjects had their blood tested every hour and were then taken outside.

It was reported that the results of the experiment will be announced to the scientific world and the public after other groups and all data are analyzed.
